Business Intelligence UI/UX Specialist – FTE – Can Live Anywhere


The User Interface Specialist must be proficient in GUI design skills, User Interface skills and developing Business Intelligence Portals.  Using these skills, you must be able to design a BI Business Portal Intelligence Dashboard  from user requirements gathered from the client.  You must be able to design, modify, or recommend a database change to facilitate the BI portal, as well as build a prototype of the Portal for the development team to use as the basis.  You will be asked to formulate client requirements into a written form and then transform them into a design and specifications for other BI developers to follow and you must be capable of working independently without supervision.


You will perform some project management tasks, including being able to identify client issues, handle appropriately, and communicate to management.  The User Interface Specialist must be capable of creating and delivering a status report to management and client management, as well as be capable of supervising and advising more junior BI/UI developers on small to mid size projects.  You should be experienced in applying our Professional Services Project Management Guidelines (PMG) and the project management tools and techniques utilized to support the PMG.  This experience should translate to the development of project plans for the projects you manage. You should be able to both recognize and help exploit business opportunities and be actively involved in business development, as well as be responsible for customer satisfaction and the development of long-term customer relationships.  Finally, you will sometimes need to participate in estimating a BI solution during the sales cycle.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Provide analysis, design and leadership consulting services to clients using the our core product line which include the core features and capabilities of reporting, Dialogue Manager and Developer Studio.  Specific tasks include, but are not limited to, application design, UI/UX design, portal design and problem resolution.
  • Ability to create WireFrames for prototyping the solutions.
  • Demonstrate the ability to install and configure Developers Studio.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of Reporting Server administration and configuration. Must understand the relationships of Server configuration to application development Must be able to create diagnostics for problem resolution such as traces and savediags.
  • Demonstrate the ability to mentor both developers and client staff in proper BI techniques for Portal development
  • Ability to conduct a needs assessment and analysis with the client to gather their requirements and determine those factors that will result in a successful application design.
  • Demonstrate the ability to effectively architect and design medium to large applications, including but not limited to overall design, user interface, reports, launch pages, background processes, and configuration requirements of Reporting Server to support the design based on the requirement set forth with the client.
  • Recognize and help exploit business opportunities and pass the appropriate information to branch or regional management.
  • Display a working knowledge of Database Management Systems, relational/SQL DBMS’s.  DBMS’s include the databases accessible from our products ranging from legacy type DBMS’s (VSAM, IMS, IDMS, etc.) to relational/SQL based DBMS’s (DB2, Oracle, SQL/Server, etc.).
  • Ability to estimate medium to large projects.
  • Help customers and Consultants understand best practices for building effective Portals.
  • Develop working knowledge of multiple operating systems and display an ability to learn others.
  • Continue to expand and develop skills in our products and operating systems, and, when applicable to business needs, database management systems and associated client tools.
  • Develop a working knowledge of and comply with the our PMG as well as help to make sure it is followed.  This includes timely completion of required paperwork.
  • Must submit weekly status reports.
  • Process in complete and timely fashion TDATA forms to track hours, expense reports, other required forms as defined by our guidelines.
  • Must be willing and able to travel as necessary.
  • Must be well groomed and dress in neat, professional business attire.

Bachelors Degree (B.S. or B.A.) in a technical or business field; or equivalent work-related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Work background should include experience in a technical consulting or engineering environment.


  • Minimum of  three (3)  years previous experience developing and designing Business Portals, which includes UI/UX design
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience working with WebFOCUS or another high level language such as Business Object, MicroStrategy, Cognos, Tableau, Actuate, OBIEE, etc..
  • Significant experience in Web development.
  • Experience with UI/UX web design
  • GUI tool or other front-end technology.
  • Exposure to multiple Database Management Systems, with exposure to SQL based DBMS’s a plus.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with multiple operating systems.
  • Experience with  creating Wireframes.
  • Ability to create application prototypes.
  • Experience with HTML, HTML5 and JavaScript
  • Experience with JQuery and JQuery Mobile
  • Experience with CSS3 and Mobile Query.
  • Ability to write solid documentation that supports the architecture and project management effort.
  • Experience in applying project management principles via formal methodology, and using the associated tools and techniques.
  • Sound customer relations skills and the ability to work with demanding clients.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.

Duration: Full Time/Permanent positions

Location(s) / Travel:  Can live anywhere in the US, (Central or Eastern US preferred but not required), Will travel 50% (more like 25% and shorter 1 to 5 day type trips, then work can be designed from home)and work from home the rest.  Will report to the VP of Expert Services who reside sin FLA

Compensation: $115k to $120k with a $17k Bonus plus kicker for T&E
